I live in Waterbeach with my wife and two children.
Full statement
I grew up here and have deep roots in our community. I want our local villages to thrive and to give people the best opportunity to live in a safe, pleasant and accessible environment.
My biggest frustration is how long it takes to get things done, which is why I am running to be your County Councillor - so that I can help change that.
My experience means I know how to get things done. I worked in local government for 14 years and now work for the public service union, UNISON. Last year I was elected to Waterbeach Parish Council and am using my skills to bring about change. I want to see real and lasting improvements to our local villages. For the County Council, the ‘Waterbeach Division’ includes Milton, Landbeach, Horningsea, Fen Ditton and Chittering. I want all our villages to benefit from the new and improved infrastructure opportunities we are starting to see across our County, like the new bus franchising service and the funding boosts to local services like schools and GP surgeries.
I have three key things I want to do to.
1. We need better community facilities
South Cambs District Council has over £20m sitting in the bank that’s meant for social infrastructure. Our Parish Councils have money too. I have the drive to unlock this.
I am taking action to make sure our popular Waterbeach community library survives and thrives.
I’ll protect Milton Country Park and want speedy delivery of the promised North Park at Waterbeach new town.
I won’t rubber-stamp developer decisions. We need decent infrastructure that we can all be proud of.
2.Roads that are safe for all
The County Council has an extra £10m from the new Government to fix the potholes. I’ll demand urgent action!
I am a longstanding campaigner for a 20mph zone for Waterbeach village and road safety on the A10. We deserve safer streets where people work, live and play.
I’m working with local campaigners to help bring improvements to the Humphries Way junction at Milton.
3. First rate provision for our children
I’ll campaign for fair funding for our local schools, for our share of the new teachers in shortage subjects, and for all pupils to get the support they need to achieve their very best.
The new primary school at Waterbeach new town must be ready for families moving to our area.
