Full statement
A lifelong liberal, Robert was always repelled by the self-entitled attitude of the Tory party and the divisive class war attitudes still at the heart of many in the Labour party. "Politics should be about giving everyone a fair chance" says Robert. "That is at the heart of Liberal Democrat policies, and in my experience, it's what inspires all Liberal Democrat politicians to work so hard for the sake of those they represent".
Robert started taking a practical interest in politics while living in the West of England, when it started to become clear which way the Brexit vote was going. Since moving to Cambridgeshire 5 years ago, he has worked hard to get Liberal Democrats into office at every election, most notably in 2018 when the Liberal Democrats swept South Cambridgeshire council. Now living in Red Lodge, Robert would like to see the same benefits of good government and fairness, which the Liberal Democrats brought to South Cambridgeshire, in Newmarket and Red Lodge.
Robert is an engineer by profession, leading a substantial team. "At work, I'm expected to make judgements based on data, rather than knee-jerk reactions", he says. "I also work with people of all cultural, social and sexual backgrounds and I'm expected to treat them all fairly. As a councillor, I would use these same skills, to help your council operate as fairly and efficiently as possible".
