Statement to voters
I have lived in the village for many years, I am married to Sarah and have 2 children Sam and Evie-Grace both growing up fast.
Full statement
I am an active member of the Salvation Army Church and a Trustee of HI Friends who brings people together to improve wellbeing. You will have attended HI Friends events in the village where I was key to the success working tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure everything runs smoothly. As a director of a successful small Audio-Visual business, I am fortunate to have the flexibility to be able to give back to the local community. During COVID times this meant I was able to, alongside others, make a big difference to those people who needed additional help and support during those tough times.
I have been a Parish Councillor since 2008 and was a District councillor between 2010 to 2018. These fantastic opportunities have given me the experience and knowledge to help the community.
PROVEN TRACK RECORD • Recreation Ground I have been actively involved in improving facilities on the Rec for the last 15 years • Community togetherness and wellbeing. Working on village community events bringing all ages together on events such as Jubilee week & Feast. • Road safety Increasing road safety for children by introducing the Traffic Regulation Order on The Green access road to the Junior School. • Working with Greenleas residents and new school to sort out parking issues. A good track record in supporting local residents on individual issues. • Covid working group helping on the village organising group throughout the Covid pandemic.
TRAFFIC AND PARKING AROUND PARK PRIMARY SCHOOL I have been working with local residents, parents, school staff and other councillors about parking issues around the new school. Road safety and traffic are a real concern. This is an ongoing issue, and I am working with all parties to find some resolutions. Further details mentioning my involvement can be found on the Parish Council website at http://shorturl.at/syJKV
CAMBRIDGE SCIENCE PARK NORTH IS THIS THE “BIGGEST DEVELOPMENT SINCE THE JAM FACTORY” Cambridge Science Park North will be located on Green Belt land between the A10 and Impington currently used for farming. The site was submitted to South Cambs District Council and is under consultation. Around 3000 Jobs are planned as well as a country park.
I, as well as many of you, have concerns about how the local infrastructure could cope and if there is a need for this development. I have created a survey to give residents an opportunity to give their input, this will help determine the right outcome for the local community. The survey is open still and available at http://shorturl.at/puGZ4
NEW HOTEL IN ORCHARD PARK - IS IT NEEDED? Proposals for a new aparthotel comprising 80 long-stay guest rooms and a 137-room short-stay hotel. The development will also offer co-working spaces and community facilities. but does the area need another hotel when there are already some 450 hotel rooms within Orchard Park? What do you as residents want, while the community amenities may be good for the community will it come at a cost and create other issues?
Let me know what you think, I will be pushing to make sure whatever is built will benefit the community, not just the developer. (The developer’s website is here https://orchardparkaparthotel.com/)
PUMP TRACK I am working with the HI Pump Track group to try and secure a site and funding to be able to turn this dream into a reality. For as long as I can remember a skate park has been asked for by the teens of the village with the last few years the idea has been turned into a Pump track idea. Several un-official sites in the village have been built which can damage areas of land so getting this project an official site is a top priority.
In research, I have seen many different designs and I am sure we could produce something that will serve both pump track and skateboarding.
WORKING FOR THE FUTURE Addressing affordable housing to meet local needs (such as Community Land trusts). • Working together to ensure we preserve the character of the communities and the green belt. • Improving community wellbeing. • To deliver a Pump Track for our community for young and old to enjoy together. • Increasing traffic safe zones and pushing for 20mph zones.
Voting for me on 5th May 2022 would give me the privilege of once again being one of your District Councillors who “Putting the community first, not party politics”.
Thanks Edd
