Statement to voters
It’s been such a privilege to serve Bishopstoke Ward on Eastleigh Borough Council since 2018.
Full statement
I originally decided to stand because the Council was failing to listen to local residents’ concerns about proposals to build over 3,000 houses on Stoke Park Farm. In 2017, all 3 of the then LibDem Councillors voted for that plan. This proposal was subsequently rejected by the Planning Inspector. I’ve lived in Bishopstoke for nearly 30 years and for most of that time, I’ve worked locally too. Our community means so much to me and I’ve worked hard to ensure that Bishopstoke’s voice is heard on the Council. I represent Bishopstoke’s residents, not a party, and I hope that, with your support, I’ll be able to continue to do so. What Bishopstoke needs from Eastleigh Borough Council: Allotments at Sewall Drive and Bow Lake Gardens: housing developers have still not handed these over to the Council. Gin has highlighted this at all full Council meetings in last 6 months. Responsible finances: especially regarding spending on the huge housing project at One Horton Heath, and responding to concerns about the high level of borrowing expressed by the External Auditor. Gin has raised issues in the Audit & Resources Committee, asking for better reporting on this project’s finances. Stoke Park Farm: a clear plan to designate it as a Local Nature Reserve and listening properly to residents’ concerns about traffic and parking—as well as their ideas based on local knowledge. Responsible planning: listening and acting on local residents’ views and ensuring that the environment is properly considered, including trees and wildlife.
