Statement to voters

The people of Westminster deserve the best from their council.

Full statement

Safe streets, clean neighbourhoods, a transport network that serves everyone, and public spaces that make Westminster one of the finest cities in the world.

But when we talk to residents across Marylebone, the same concerns come up time and again. Too many people tell us they don’t feel as safe as they used to. Crime and phone snatching is rife. Streets are not as clean as they should be. E-bikes dumped on the pavements, cyclists /delivery riders cycling on the pavements and running red lights. Costs are rising while standards fall.

Both residents and your Councillors are greatly concerned about Labour handing over Oxford Street to the Mayor of London. The Labour-led Council did this by classifying it as a “non-key decision”. Preventing any scrutiny of the proposal, any review of any decision and any vote.

A Mayoral Development Corporation (MDC) now controls Oxford Street. The mayor appoints its members. There is no role for your elected councillors and no role for the Council planning and licensing committees.

This shows a contempt for residents, transparency, accountability and the democratic process.

Too often, the Labour-led council simply is not listening. This must change.

We are re-standing as your local Conservatives in May because Westminster deserves better. A council that keeps your city safe, looks after your streets to a high standard, spends your money wisely, and actually listens to the people who live here.

Our plan is built around what residents have told us matters most: safe streets with visible enforcement, clean and well-maintained public spaces, and every pound of council tax spent on the services that matter. No more waste, no more reckless spending.

We have the plan, the team and the commitment to deliver it.

On Thursday, 7th May, you have the chance to vote for real change in Westminster.

We are asking for your trust and your vote to deliver the city you deserve.
