Statement to voters

On Thursday 3rd May, you will have the opportunity to choose a new, hardworking, locally-focussed councillor to represent you – someone who will listen and respond to your questions and concerns, and will act diligently to resolve them.

Full statement

My team and I have been out to every street in the area, speaking with and listening to local residents. I’ve been taking action on crime and safety, traffic and speeding, the condition of our roads and pavements, as well as litter, fly-tipping and graffiti. I share your desire to keep our community clean and to see local parks, libraries and schools protected from government cuts. As I’m out and about in the area regularly, I have and will continue to pick up and deal with issues as they arise.

Whether it’s been getting my hands dirty and planting trees in Kings Norton Park, litter-picking in West Heath Park and Kings Norton Nature Reserve, or carrying out workshops at local schools and colleges, I’ve always taken a hands on approach to my work – and I will continue to do so as your local councillor.

This area is really important to me: I was brought up here and I work here – so the issues that affect you, affect me too.

My ties to the area are incredibly strong, and that can only help me represent you as your local councillor. I went to Cadbury College, got my first job on Kings Norton Business Park, and I even had my first pint in the Bulls Head.

I’ve also been leading the Kings Norton Heritage Project, and I understand and appreciate the importance of our area’s local history. It’s things such as this: Kings Norton’s rich heritage, the people that live here, and the fantastic local community groups that would make me so proud to represent Kings Norton North as your councillor.

It’s been a pleasure to work alongside a range of dedicated groups and individuals who are making a difference on the ground. I’ve been to local schools, parks, societies and community centres to engage with people of all ages and backgrounds. I believe that we do better when we work together, and it is that inclusive approach that I will continue to take as your councillor.

To ensure that you have a councillor who puts you first and will be there all year round – not just during election season – vote for me by putting an X next to Alex Aitken on your ballot paper. With your support, I can continue working with you and for you to make our neighbourhood cleaner, greener and safer for our families and friends.
