Statement to voters

Seven years ago, I decided to vote with my heart and become a Green Party member.

Full statement

In moving to Hastings, I joined the local Greens and helped out on election campaigns; working behind the scenes on data and speaking to voters on the doorstep.

In my home ward of Castle during lockdown I witnessed the kindness, resilience and creativity of my neighbours. People rallying to help one another. Cleaning up their neighbourhood. That’s what I want to stand up for and channel within our Council: that positive, creative, ‘can-do’ attitude. I’m a natural problem-solver and feel energised to take on this ward’s more pressing problems: how do we regenerate the town centre as a safe space for all to enjoy, that puts the needs of the local people and environment before big investors? How do we raise every child in this borough safely and firmly above the poverty line? How do we provide our young people with local, meaningful employment? And how do we help our homes and businesses make sustainable, green choices on energy, transport and consumables?

I bring an eclectic range of work experience: through performing to event production, waitressing to accounts administration, marketing to teaching, I have gained a broad skill-set and understanding of different walks of life. Underpinning everything I do is my passion for the environment and social justice. I am a founding member of the Clean Water Action Group, who organised Hastings’ first People’s Assembly on the topic. I’m part of a local recycling collective, who help each other recycle trickier items by sharing info and offering collections. I delivered foodbank orders to vulnerable residents throughout lockdown. I support numerous other local causes and I live, work and socialise within this very ward. I would be honoured to represent the people here.
