Statement to voters

Now that the Statement of Persons Nominated has been published, I am pleased to announce that I am the official Labour Party candidate, standing in the Lancashire County Council elections for the division of Euxton, Buckshaw and Astley on Thursday 1st May 2025.

Full statement

Now, here's a little bit about me...

I currently live in Astley Village, and have spent much of my life here, and I'm a former pupil of Buckshaw Primary School - more years ago than I care to remember! I also spent eight fab years living in Buckshaw Village until 2019.

I am the current Chair of Astley Village Parish Council, having been elected in May 2023 and re-elected in May 2024. I enjoy getting involved in various events to help improve our local community, including litter picks.

I served as a Borough Councillor in Euxton South between 2018 and 2021 and I also served on Euxton Parish Council between 2018 and 2022. In 2021, I proposed that Chorley Council create a Champion for Mental Health Awareness role and this was voted through unanimously. I am passionate about promoting positive mental health and wellbeing having struggled myself several years ago.
I work in a further education college in East Lancashire, and I am also a union representative, as well as a Staff Governor.

I will:

✅ Advocate for improved SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) provision in our schools - something which is close to my heart.
✅ Push for better quality and more efficient pothole repairs on our roads and pavements.
✅ Work collaboratively with Borough Councillors and local Police to report issues including anti-social behaviour, speeding and dangerous parking.

I have really enjoyed meeting and listening to residents in Euxton, Buckshaw Village and Astley Village over the past few months. Granted, we have not made it to every street just yet, but I'm hoping to meet many more people over the next few weeks. It is also important to say that we all have different views and opinions - I respect people's choices in this election.
I simply want to help residents, and make a positive difference to a community I have been part of for most of my life and one which I care deeply about.
This is my reason for standing.

Thank you,
Gillian 🌹
