Vice Chair of the Haringey Irish Centre Committee
Executive member of the London Mayor’s Association.I was an active member of the Haringey NUT, and became President in 1978. I became a member of the Head Teachers Union in 1986. On my retirement in 1993 I was asked to join UNISON retired members.
I represented Park Ward 1994-2002 then when the ward changed to Northumberland Park I represent it from 2002 to now. I have been Mayor three times, first in 1998/9 and then 2004/5 and 2013/14.
My top priority as a Councillor is now and has always been, to work hard to ensure that future generations will be proud to live in Haringey.
I do my best at all levels to try to achieve this aim. What ever committee I serve on my sole reason for being there, is to raise the standard of living for the residents and children of the Borough.
When I was first elected in 1994, on joining the Council I was elected as Deputy Leader by the then Labour Group as they wished to draw on my knowledge of working with the community, as a teacher and then a Head Teacher.
I have served the Council in various positions, I have been Vice Chair of Social Services, Vice Chair of Housing and then for a period of four years I was Chair of Licensing. In 2006 I was elected as Chair of Planning. I was Mayor in 1998/9 and again in 2004/5.
I try to work continuously with all residents, not just at election times and I represent people from many different cultures and races; I try hard to help everyone equally regardless of who they are.
