Statement to voters

Dear Crayford Residents,

Tory-run Bexley Council are 24th in the league table for Council Tax rates, making our council one of the highest charging boroughs in London.

Fortunately, on Thursday 3rd May 2018 you will have the chance to vote for something fairer. While top of the league Westminster enjoy the cheapest council tax rates in London, they also benefit from having their waste collected twice a week!

While residents both in Crayford and across Bexley, who pay more and get far less in return, we have to wait once a fortnight. The mean income in Westminster is around £104,000 per year compared to Bexley’s £30,200.

Yet here in Bexley, many low earners are paying OVER £500 MORE a year in council tax than some of the wealthiest in Westminster. The Tories are continuing to raise council taxes for hardworking individuals and families here in Bexley. All while reducing youth services and local councillors in the name of “efficiency" when really it’s all about ideological cuts by the Tory government. Where is the fairness and value for money?

Anti Social Behaviour is also on the rise again in Crayford and the Tory-run council just don’t know how to approach it. Crayford ranks 33/49 in the Bexley Neighbourhood Crime League Table.

My experience working with children who have been excluded from mainstream education, working for an exclusion unit and at a Bexley based secondary school, has given me some perspective on the problems they face.

Last year, Bexley Council collected more than £10,000 in on-the-spot fines for fly tipping. Yet Bexley Council estimates that it will spend almost £4 million on keeping the streets clean in 2018/19. More needs to be done to promote recycling centres as well as ensuring that cctv hotspots are evolving and being utilised.

You will have the opportunity on Thursday 3rd May 2018 to vote for change. I stand for transparency and honesty. I’m open to criticism and will always listen to your concerns, and fight your corner.

I hope to gain your trust and support. Crayford, I will not fail you.
