Statement to voters
I am delighted to have been selected as the Labour Parliamentary candidate for Bexleyheath & Crayford.
I have worked in local government for over 25 years and am an experienced caseworker and housing needs officer, working with homeless people and rough sleepers. I administer Discretionary Housing Payments to the most vulnerable, and see on a daily basis through work and in my own life, how Tory austerity affects every part of our lives. Zero hours contracts and a gig economy coupled with welfare reforms like the bedroom tax have led to increased in-work poverty and uncertainty and many of us are a payday away from disaster.
I volunteer at and organise fundraisers for Bexley FoodBank and have seen first hand a dramatic increase in usage in the borough over the last few years.
I am a local mum, my daughter was schooled here, and as a candidate in the 2018 local elections for Crayford, I am aware of the issues affecting people here.
I am the first woman to be chosen as a Labour candidate for the constituency. I believe that my fresh and energetic approach will enthuse local people and lead them to decide that I am the person to represent them in Parliament and Labour is the party with policies to provide security for them.
Labour’s policies will provide real change by funding schools and opening sure start centres for families, safeguarding our NHS, increasing police numbers and ensuring secure housing for all.
For too long the needs of Bexleyheath & Crayford residents have been ignored. I will put local people first and be a strong voice in Parliament for families like mine who need politicians to listen to the real issues affecting people.
