Statement to voters
"I have worked as GP in Kingsmead for over 16 years. In that time I have also run the Out-of-Hours medical service whilst it was a not-for-profit and, more recently, the homeless health service at the Manvers Street hostel.
Growing up, I had free school meals, went to an excellent state school and benefited from the security of good public services. It seems much harder for someone from my background to access the same opportunities now.
As a GP, I see the impact that poor services, inadequate housing and low pay have on our residents. I realise how lucky I was to be able to enjoy the opportunities I had growing up. They have given me a strong desire to work hard for a fairer society. Everyone in Bath should have a decent chance to get on in life."
