Statement to voters

Full statement
I am asking for your support on 7 May. As your current County Councillor—and Leader of the Council—you may know me from my work locally or from the updates I regularly share through our parish magazines and on social media.
I feel privileged to represent our area, and I’m determined to protect it. I will continue to oppose speculative development driven by the Government’s increased housing targets, using every lever available—highways, flooding, education and environmental considerations—to challenge unsuitable proposals.
I remain committed to a simple principle: the Council’s money is your money. I have focused on strong financial management to keep Council Tax as low as possible. Despite misinformation, Hampshire is not bankrupt. We delivered £94 million in savings this year and will deliver a further £40 million of efficiencies. Our debt remains low and falling—£153 million, just 4.6% of a £3.3 billion budget—and is used only for long-term investments such as SEND provision, care facilities and infrastructure.
Roads are a clear priority. This winter has caused significant damage, and I share residents’ frustration. We are directing every possible resource into repairs, including an additional £15 million this summer and introducing a new scheme to charge utility companies for disruptive roadworks, with funds reinvested directly into highways.
This election is about local leadership, not national politics. It is about who you trust to deliver services, manage your money responsibly, and stand up for our area. I hope I can count on your support to continue doing so for Romsey Rural.
My Priorities:
Local Conservatives have been active in listening to your views. If you elect me, my priorities will be:
• Work to keep Council Tax down
• While protecting frontline services for our most vulnerable residents.
• Oppose speculative developments and press for the right homes in the right places.
• Work hard to ensure our roads are maintained to a high standard.
• Vigilance over utility company roadworks causing disruption and chaos.
• Encourage environmentally friendly policies.
• Fight our area being split by Labour’s plan for new Councils. My Commitment
If you elect me you should expect that I will:
• Keep you informed
• Be available to talk to you about your issues
• Put Romsey Rural FIRST – put what is best for our area before party politics
• Be available to help and find someone who can if I am unable to do so.Thank you for taking the time to read this.
