Statement to voters

"My name is Brian Henney and I’m delighted to have been selected as a candidate for the Borough Council elections in May 2019. My wife and I have lived in Atherstone for over 40 years. Our two daughters and four grandchildren also live in Atherstone. We have been foster carers in the community for over 20 years and run a successful business based at Holly Lane Industrial Estate.

In 2015 I became a Borough Councillor and have previously stepped in to save the Atherstone Motor Show, expanding it into Long Street. I am also Vice-Chairman of Atherstone Town Community Football Club Supports Trust.

I’m standing for the election because Atherstone is a great town but our current Conservative Councillors do us a huge disservice. They are out of touch with the issues facing our town and have failed to take the action needed to drive our town forward.

When the Town is facing thousands of new homes being built, they are silent. When businesses are crying out for more footfall, they are silent. When our community facilities like the Arcade need investment, they are silent.

We need a more open Borough Council, a more active Borough Council and a Borough Council that works for the interests of local people. That is what I will fight for."
