Statement to voters

Every day I get up and go to work, just like the majority of people in North Warwickshire. I live in an ordinary house, in a lovely street, surrounded by inspiring and hard working people.
I’m a Trade Union organiser, married to a Police Officer with two children. Together we’ve lived in North Warwickshire for over 20 years. I care about this community because its where my children went to school, its where I live, it’s where I socialise with friends and neighbours and it is the place I want all residents to be kept safe by our publicly funded Police service, Fire Service and GP practice to name a few. This area is my home and I care passionately about the people who live within it.
Over the last 9 years, working people of all ages go to work to earn an honest living, but still struggle to make ends meet. Many are struggling with in-work poverty, hold 2-3 insecure jobs and regularly rely on food banks to feed their families. Our young people are trapped living at home unable to save the extortionate deposits to either buy a home or put down 2 months rent and many lack the opportunities to get on in life. Our aging population who have paid a lifetime of taxes and national insurance are not treated with the respect and dignity they rightly deserve. Labour consider our aging population as our priority which is right and proper.
In the last 9 years, our Tory MP has overseen and voted in favour of cuts to every single school across Bedworth and North Warwickshire. The funding cuts to schools and college budgets are totally unacceptable and are stripping children and adults of an education and fulfilled and meaningful life.
The fabulous staff at our local cottage hospital, George Eliot Hospital continue to find ways of providing quality health services to our community while the Government continue to squeeze NHS budgets and staffto breaking point.
Our elderly are more isolated than ever before, faced with the lowest state pension in Europe and here in this constituency, our bus services have been reduced and or stopped completely, impacting upon the health and wellbeing of our communities quality of life.
Council services have been stripped back, libraries closed, day centres scrapped, elderly care squeezed – our communites have suffered unnecessarily in the hands of the Tories and Lib Dems.
I am honest, hard working with a strong work ethic, and I cannot abide injustice of any form. I see and witness the struggles people face on a day to day basis, homelessness, in work poverty, reliability on food banks, many struggling to make ends meet and the elderly becoming more and more isolated. I see it and I will ensure that I challenge it and fight to eradicate anything that blights our society and our communites.
I understand the climate change emergency agenda, and Labours manifesto brings climate issues and our economic agenda to the forefront of our vision for the country. If I have the opportunity to represent North Warwickshire and Bedworth constituency as a Labour and Co operative Party MP, we will all thrive and benefit from a truly inclusive vision for this country.
