Statement to voters
"I’ve lived in this area for my entire life.
Full statement
I grew up here as a child. I went to school here. Today I am raising my own family in Wood End. I really care about Hurley, Wood End and Piccadilly. My experience and local knowledge means I can see these villages from the perspective of all residents. I think it puts me in a good position to understand local needs.
We’re a set a three villages; Hurley, Wood End and Piccadilly that needs more public services. The lack of public transport means that those who struggle to travel are to often isolated. Whether that be our young people trying to further their education or older people getting to the shops. The lack of public transport locally means we could become an isolated community.
So we need more public services. In times of austerity, that’s always difficult. I will be a Councillor who campaigns for more services locally, who fights to protect what we have and a Councillor who opposes huge development locally that will impact on our rural nature and heritage.
I believe in progress but that cannot be at the cost of losing our heritage. So whilst I want to see new homes, new services and new opportunities for local people, we have to do that together, so the community are involved in planning for the future. The current system of doing things to people instead of with them, has to change. I will seek to change that.
Having a Councillor who lives locally, who sees first-hand the issues we face, can only be a positive for our area and I look forward to working with you to tackle those issues in the coming months and years."
