Katharine is from the Essex/Hertfordshire border and studies archaeology at the University of York where she has got involved in both the local council and the university branch, where she is Treasurer.

She has been involved in the Liberal Democrats for most of her life, as her mother and grandfather were both councillors in a minority Liberal Democrat ruled council.
