Party manifesto
Jes Phillips was the Labour Party candidate. Find out more about their policies in the Labour Party manifesto.
Statement to voters
As well as being very active in local campaigns Jes is a full-time married mum of a five-year old, a school governor and Scout Leader. She is keen that more ordinary people and particularly women should be represented in local politics.
Jes says, “I aim to use my own experiences to empathise with other people and provide help where it is needed. Being a Labour candidate and, I hope, soon a councillor is for me all about making sure residents are treated with fairness; it’s about protecting the most vulnerable in our society as well as our vital public services. The predominantly male, wealthy, retired Conservatives currently running the council have lost touch with that, if they were ever in touch to begin with.”
“As a scout I always strive to do my best and I want to ensure that Southend is a great town for everyone. I want to protect schools from catastrophic funding cuts; I will work to bring in measures that keep people safe; I will continue my involvement in the campaign to protect our hospital services. I know first-hand the problems people in Prittlewell and other parts of the town centre face and will do all I can to improve the lives of local people.”
This statement was added by Jes Phillips, their team, or by a Democracy Club volunteer, based on information published by the candidate elsewhere.
