Statement to voters
I'm 50 years old, originally from West Sussex, but have called Sheffield my home since 1989.
Full statement
I've lived and worked around the south and west of Sheffield for 30 years, getting to know hundreds of people through my professional, social and political activities.
I teach children and adults of all ages and abilities to play the piano, and I work with people from all kinds of backgrounds. I also provide academic research and publishing support services - typesetting, copy-editing and proofreading. I am extremely inquisitive and am constantly expanding my knowledge and skill set.
I sing in two amateur choirs in Sheffield, and a professional ensemble in France. Over the years I've been involved in social action projects through church, community and political initiatives [see my Campaigns page for recent activity].
Leading this kind of life means that I am resourceful, cooperative, inquisitive, decisive, responsive, pro-active, precise, persuasive, resilient, and dedicated.
I am a member of Unite trade union, the Socialist Health Association (secretary of Yorkshire Branch), Sheffield Save Our NHS (secretary),
Labour Campaign for Electoral Reform, the Electoral Reform Society, the Incorporated Society of Musicians,
Sheffield & Rotherham Wildlife Trusts, the RSPB, and the Woodland Trust.
I am also a supporter of Labour for a Socialist Europe, Moorland Monitors, Ban Bloodsports on Yorkshire's Moors,
Yorkshire Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament, Stand Up to Racism, and the Labour Campaign for Free Movement.
