Statement to voters

This is a once-in-a-generation election and your vote matters.

Full statement

The country is crying out for change. This rotten Tory government has given us 14 years of chaos and decline. Living standards have fallen, public services are struggling and taxes are at record levels. The Tories partied at Downing Street whilst the rest of us followed the Covid rules. They crashed the economy and sent mortgage rates sky-high. It’s time to turn the page and give Britain a fresh start. Please play your part and vote for change.

I grew up in Glusburn, near Skipton, and attended South Craven School, where my father was a teacher for forty years. As an architect, I’ve designed Sure Start nurseries, schools, energy-efficient homes and most recently a Community Sports Hub in Skipton.

My priorities for the Skipton & Ripon constituency are: 1. 40,000 more NHS appointments each week.

2. Crack down on anti-social behaviour with new Respect Orders and 13,000 extra neighbourhood police & PCSOs back on the beat.

3. Double scanning capacity in the NHS and rescue NHS dentistry with 700,000 emergency appointments.

4. Recruit 6,500 more teachers.

5. Create a new network of youth hubs.

6. Launch GB Energy to boost energy security, create 650,000 new jobs and bring down bills.
