Statement to voters

I’m standing in the KCC election on 1st May to be your first Green Romney Marsh councillor on the Marsh, joining our fast growing Green Team on Kent County Council.

Full statement

As someone who has lived on the Marsh for nearly 40 years, running a successful local business and an active member of the local community, I believe I'm the right person to represent you and the needs of this unique place.

Before I moved here and raised my own family on the Marsh, my family brought me to Romney Marsh for holidays. However, the Marsh faces challenges. Running a company employing local people, I understand how difficult it can be for local businesses and their staff.

The Marsh mustn't be neglected, including when it comes to local health and leisure facilities.

I want to see a new medical centre in New Romney and and also leisure centre with pool at Martello Lakes, which will be much easier to get to for families on the Marsh.

In my spare time, I am actively involved with the maintenance and preservation of the historic Marsh churches and support as patron JAM on the Marsh - two very different projects that help to make the Marsh so special.

Nowhere in our district are we closer to nature or more at risk if we do not protect it. This is a subject close to my heart: I designed and built my first heat pump at 18 years old, designed my own experimental solar water heating system for my bungalow and now my company in Lydd produces critical equipment for the water and renewable energy industries.

But the Green Party is about much more. If elected, I will join a hardworking team that will do what's best for our part of Kent, listening to residents issues and responding effectively. Our hardworking disttrict councillors have demonstrated why voters were right to trust them and I hope you will give me your trust so that we can continue this in KCC.

If elected, I will be a strong voice for the Marsh, ready and able to speak my mind for you and the place that’s so precious to all of us.

Best Wishes Malcolm

PS. Please make a note to vote GREEN on 1st May. A very small number of votes will decide the result and yours will definitely make a difference.

Promoted by Malcolm Watkinson on behalf of himself and Shepway Green Party. Both c/o White Lodge, Church Road, New Romney, TN28 8EX.
