Statement to voters
Hello, I’m Priya Brown, the Women's Equality Party candidate for our local council election in Kempshott and Buckskin.
Full statement
As a married, self-employed, mum of two and a community volunteer, I am proud and passionate about my hometown and the thriving communities we have. Standing for the Women’s Equality Party (WE) in the last four elections with your support, has enabled us to put pressure on those in charge to do better. WE have:
• WON our campaign for the Council to end violence against women & girls by becoming White Ribbon accredited (whiteribbon.org.uk). • ENSURED that the Council's climate action plan must properly consider gender equality. • Successfully PETITIONED the House of Lords to advise the Dept. for Education on school sports equality in their new report. • RAISED VITAL FUNDS for our local rape and sexual abuse crisis centre. • Put gender EQUALITY at the forefront of any new or upgraded hospital. • CAMPAIGNED for care workers' pay and abortion rights. • Raised awareness of inequality's harsh IMPACTS on men.
Politics belongs to all of us. As a mum, I want to see equality for all in life and especially for our future generations. In Kempshott and Buckskin I will:
• SCRUTINISE any development and revival plans for our town centre. • PROTECT our public spaces for all to enjoy. • Voice resident concerns with an INDEPENDENT voice on environmental protection, new developments and infrastructure. • Take ACTION to end violence against women and girls and ensure our town is safe for everyone. • LISTEN to residents, WORK tirelessly for them and FIGHT for their community without fear or favour.
This year we have an opportunity to change things for the better in Basingstoke and I want to make that happen for the benefit of all. We can all report issues such as fly tipping and pot holes to the local authorities. What we do need in Kempshott and Buckskin are councillors that will be a strong voice for residents and who will ensure our ward and town will thrive as we grow and develop together. Thank you for your support.
