Statement to voters
I have lived in Cherry Hinton since 1971.
Full statement
Our children went to school here, and my wife and I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else. As well as being your councillor and chair of Cherry Hinton Residents Association, I also volunteer at Darwin Nurseries, help elderly people with gardening and other jobs, and help with the Barnwell Baptist Church Owls – a group of pre-school children. I am also involved with and a keen supported of the UK co-operative sector.
My time as a councillor has just flown by, yet there have ben real gains, with the new Community Hub in the Library poised to be in place next year, improvements to the High Street and Rectory Terrace, the Rec with a new pavilion and equipment, new village signs, bus shelters and paths, and various other improvements including for the High Street War Memorial, Tenby Close play areas, bollards by Dorringtons and much else besides.
There is still plenty Labour can do, with more changes coming including a redesign of the shops on Rectory Terrace; improvements to the Robin Hood Junction; important housing schemes for the land north of Teversham Drift and for the Colville Road flats; the ongoing struggle to get appropriate traffic measures for Rosemary Lane and Church End; and finally seeing new community facilities as part of an expanded Library Community Hub. For this, and more to come, I hope I can count on your continued support on 2nd May.
