Statement to voters
I’m Chris Halliday, a data analyst and local resident in Ashton upon Mersey, and I’m proud to be part of the Conservative team holding this failing Labour council to account.
Full statement
Labour’s Ashton councillors are backing plans to build on Goodwood Field, against the wishes of local residents. I will oppose any plans to build on this vital green space.
Labour have lost control of Trafford’s finances, raising council tax by 7.5% two years in a row, above the referendum threshold, while bringing back green bin charges.
At the same time, we have some of the worst potholes in Greater Manchester, blocked drains and missed bins. We’ll address this decline with a clear plan to focus on the basics and get spending under control.Trafford has fantastic schools, but too many children are being sent to places far away from where they live, putting parents and children under pressure. I’ll fight for a new secondary school in South Trafford and help families get their children into local schools, not miles away.
Only the Conservatives have a chance to get Labour out in Ashton and send a message to this failing council. If, like me, you want to see:
- Protection of our green spaces in Goodwood Field and Carrington Moss
- Council tax under control, not amongst the highest in the country
- Focusing on getting the basics right
- Enough local school places for local children
Vote for Chris Halliday and the Conservatives on May 7th.
