Statement to voters

Loraine Birchall is an experienced project manager & consultant with a sound business background. Former Chair of Cumbria Liberal Democrats, she is Chair of Barrow and Furness Lib Dems and a keen community activist.

Loraine is a Board Member of South Lakes Housing, member of both the Finance & Development Committees, contributing to the strategic vision and direction of SLH.

Loraine is Chair of Trustees for the Friends of X112 supporting rural transport for communities with no commercial bus service in South Lakeland & Furness Peninsula. She is an active Parish Councillor in Great Urswick where she lives with her teenage son, Jake, and two chocolate Labradors.

“I have known Loraine for several years and we have worked on numerous local campaigns. She cares passionately about and works hard for the benefit of her community and more importantly people in need.
She is not scared about hiding her opinions and will stand her ground. However, whatever the decision of the team, she will always fulfil her commitment and tasks set. She has a very rare skill of not only seeing the bigger picture, but also can focus on detail where necessary. I find her tenacious, professional and fun to work with. Importantly, she is a people person and cares about fairness.”
Ian Wharton - Councillor - Broughton and Coniston Ward

Loraine is a partner in Artemis Media, an accidental geek and web developer specialising in databases and ecommerce. She has managed EU funded projects working directly with local businesses across the North West for NWDA, WCDA, Business Link, The Manufacturing Institute and Universities.

Loraine spent five years working at BAE, her son is an apprentice and she has a number of family members working in the shipyard. She will fight to keep the yard safe for the future of Barrow.
