Statement to voters

Your only INDEPENDENT Candidate I believe the newly enlarged ward deserves a real choice in this election.

Full statement

• I am genuinely Independent and not connected to any registered political party. • I have already served nearly 8 years as a district councillor so have experience and knowledge of how to work effectively for you. I am the only candidate who has this experience. • I work voluntarily and collaboratively on projects to improve our community for everyone, such as the Lingfield Larder (Community Fridge), Lingfield Nature Reserves, the Lingfield Youth Hub and in the past, on Covid support. • I used my planning expertise, to work with the Star Fields Action Group and I represented the Parish Council at the Public Inquiry, making the local case which was pivotal in ensuring the Star Fields planning appeal was dismissed. • I have a well recorded history of strongly challenging inappropriate planning decisions for the area, including the disastrous concept of the Garden Village and the Conservative’s unsound Local Plan. • I have always put my community first where council decisions are being made. As an independent councillor I am not tied to any political party who tells their members how to vote. I can, and will, openly support those proposals which are beneficial to our area and the whole district. I am standing as a REAL independent – I did not have any affiliations with the political candidates in the last parish/district elections and have no connection to the Residents’ Groups, which are now run as registered political parties, Vote Liz Lockwood Independent X Tandridge District Council Elections Thursday 2 May 2024 Don’t forget your Voter/Photo ID to vote in person Polling Stations: Crowhurst and Tandridge Village Halls, Lingfield & Dormansland Community Centre 7am to 10pm Thursday 2 May 2024 Contact E: liz@lizlockwood.co.uk T: 01342 834282 Promoted by/for Liz Lockwood of 1 Mount Pleasant Road Lingfield RH7 6BH Printed By HelloPrint 100 Pall Mall SW1Y 5NQ About Liz Lockwood I have lived in the Parish of Lingfield since 1989, moving in from Edenbridge. As a qualified teacher, I worked at St Piers/Young Epilepsy for 15 years and in local primary schools. Previously, I was a Geography teacher at secondary schools in London, Tonbridge and Crowborough. My home is in Lingfield with 2 of my 3 grown up children and my 2 dogs. Even before being elected onto the local councils in 2015, I have always been active in supporting local issues but now I am retired from teaching, I have more time to continue this. Gatwick Airport’s growth and changing flight paths impacts the whole area; whilst on the District Council, I represented our area on a range of the Gatwick committees, some of which I still attend as a Lingfield Parish Councillor. I spoke at the Public Hearings for the Gatwick Expansion Planning Inquiry earlier this year to raise issues which affect our residents very negatively. With the pressure from Gatwick to achieve more growth, our communities need a spokesperson who is familiar with and well respected by, the various boards and committees, so that when we need to make our case, it is heard clearly. I’d like to use my planning skills to secure some Community Led Housing in our area, as this the only way to deliver truly affordable housing locally. I have already helped Crowhurst, Tandridge and Lingfield Parish areas start their own neighbourhood plans, so that they can control and shape any development. I’d also like the opportunity to finish some of the Council work that I started in 2022, especially relating to council housing, and to deliver the promised improvements in Meadowside. We need a strong local voice to counter the Oxted-centric way the council is run, and it needs to be from a knowledgeable and hardworking councillor who has the time and energy to keep the Lingfield, Crowhurst and Tandridge Parish areas high on the agenda. We don’t deserve to be sidelined. You won’t find glossy PR photos of me standing in front of council projects, claiming all the credit; that’s not my style. What really counts is ensuring the council delivers its services within budget, and helping people if it goes wrong. I understand the issues involved, can make a well-informed case, and can work positively with council officers/service providers, to achieve a successful outcome for residents. I have the knowledge and experience to do this for you.
