Statement to voters

I have lived in Earley since 2004 with my wife and daughter.

Full statement

A strong commitment to community service and campaigning has always been a huge part of my life. I am a committed volunteer with a number of local and national groups including those assisting our senior citizens, the environment and international development. In 2019, after a career in education which included 25 years in Africa and the Pacific Islands, I was honoured to be elected as a Borough and Town Councillor in Hawkedon Ward. I enjoy meeting and working with Hawkedon and other residents to make our community an even better place in which to live. As a borough councillor I currently chair or vice-chair committees scrutinising Children’s Services, Planning and Overview and Scrutiny Management.

I was privileged to play a leading role in the successful campaign by residents and my Lib Dem colleagues to stop a supermarket and homes being built on Swallows Meadow. I am now working with others on ways to preserve this green space for future generations.
