Statement to voters
As a lifelong resident of Waterlooville I know the area well having attended local schools and seen the things change over the years.
Full statement
I am a trustee of two local community buildings, including the Waterlooville Community Centre.
I am actively involved in the local community as a school governor for the past 18 years at two schools, including my former Primary School. Having a keen interest in providing young people the best start both education wise and with practical life skills I have continued since my two son's left.
The experience of being a full time carer for my dad, who had both prostate cancer and Alzheimer's, has given me an active interest in adult social care and the NHS. I run the Waterlooville Memory Cafe with a fantastic team of volunteers and am involved with Dementia Friendly Havant Borough CIO.
Having grown up sailing in Langstone Harbour I am passionate about the local environment and massively concerned about the impact of the proposed Southern Water recycling facility on our drinking water, energy use and the risks to the harbour. I also regularly help out with the local residents’ association environment group looking after our green spaces and removing litter.
I helped found a local Repair Cafe in 2019 to save things being unnecessarily thrown away and continue to help run it. We also run a Library of Things so people can borrow an item rather than have the expense of purchasing it and only using it once or twice.
There is a lot of talk about needing change, and I fully agree with that. We don’t need to look backwards and get left behind, stuck in the past, but forward looking positive change rather that improves things now and for our children’s future.
Through my involvement with the community and my role as a Havant Borough Councillor I listen to people concerns and am always open to hearing more. I will continue to support local residents and bring people together with the positive change Waterlooville needs.
