Statement to voters

Amy Wheelton Independent
South Derbyshire Constituency Amy is a farmer and businesswoman from Walton-on-Trent.

Full statement

She spent 10 years with the National Farmers’ Union working with farmers dealing with the enormous variety of issues rural communities experience. Following this, she returned home to run and develop her farm. Amy was elected as Seales District Councillor in 2019 and re-elected May 2023 and since elected she has worked with Parish Councils, residents and businesses/organisations to solve and champion issues. “Throughout my life, I have remained passionate and dedicated to helping the countryside and local community. Committed to principles of integrity, transparency and inclusivity, and as a local lass, it’s my time to step up and deliver practical solutions for the benefit of our whole community. I want every voice to be heard and not to leave the decline of our rural and urban areas for our children to deal with. I must make a stand and YOUR VOTE can make this happen.” Stop sewage discharges into the rivers and watercourses of South Derbyshire. Challenge and advocate for infrastructure in South Derbyshire such as the new Walton bypass, appropriate highways and roads for our growing community, and adequate healthcare and dentistry provision for the whole of South Derbyshire. Support local businesses and champion regeneration for Swadlincote town centre. Protect and enhance our rural areas and way of life, striking the right balance between the environment, climate-change, food security and loss of biodiversity. Raise awareness of the challenges, financial hurdles and issues faced daily by people unable to work due to full-time caring responsibilities. Support the Police and Armed Forces to be fit-for-purpose by being adequately resourced. Help create more central support and funding for all youth clubs, amateur sports clubs and community groups across the constituency to empower and inspire our residents and children to be active, improving mental and physical wellbeing. Highlight and fight for critical support and funding for the running costs of local care facilities. Pressure and work with Derbyshire Constabulary, Derbyshire County Council and the Crime Commissioner to tackle speeding motorists and overweight vehicles cutting across our districts. Challenge wasteful spending and procurement practices – we must have value for taxpayers’ money. Help, support, and challenge our councils to ensure accountability and transparency.

South Derbyshire has been ill-served by party politics; elect a local MP whose sole focus is to speak up for our area. VOTE Amy Wheelton INDEPENDENT
