Statement to voters

Amy Wheelton Independent
Linton Division Derbyshire County Council Amy is a farmer and businesswoman from Walton-on-Trent.

Full statement

She spent 10 years with the National Farmers’ Union working with farmers dealing with the enormous variety of issues rural communities experience. Following this, she returned home to run and develop her farm. Amy was elected as Seales District Councillor in 2019 and re-elected May 2023 and since elected she has worked with Parish Councils, residents and businesses/organisations to solve and champion issues. “Throughout my life, I have remained passionate and dedicated to helping the countryside and local community. Committed to principles of integrity, transparency and inclusivity, and as a local lass, it’s my time to step up and deliver practical solutions for the benefit of our whole community. I want every voice to be heard and not to leave the decline of our rural and urban areas for our children to deal with.

Amy’s Priorities:
 Repairing potholes and the state of our local roads both rural and the A444.
 Continue to challenge and advocate for the delivery of the new Walton bypass and bridge.
 Helping residents with Special Educational Needs (SEND) and school transport issues.
 Raise awareness of Linton Division within Derbyshire County Council and ensure we get a fair allocation of resources including appropriate infrastructure.
 Continue to work collaboratively with local organisations such as the National Forest, Police, Rural Crime Team, CVS, District and Parish Councils.

In the last 6 years as South Derbyshire District Councillor, I have put residents first and:
 Secured a ‘foil balloon’ ban on District land, the first in Derbyshire!
 Organised meetings with the Rural Crime Team and local police ensuring
residents’ and farmers’ concerns are heard.
 Been instrumental in tackling flytipping, littering and animal welfare issues.
 Supported local events, District and Parish Councils and kept residents informed on local matters.
 Lobbied and enabled new planned healthcare facilities at Drakelow.
 Spoken out against inappropriate planning as an experienced Planning Committee Member.
 Represented and resolved residents’ issues including planning, trees, SEND, potholes, flooding, planning enforcement and anti -social behaviour.
 Brought an Ecological Crisis Moti on to the District Council which is now adopted
policy and being implemented.

South Derbyshire has been ill-served by party politics; elect a local County Councillor whose sole focus is to speak up for our area. VOTE Amy Wheelton INDEPENDENT and #keepitlocalwithAmy
