Statement to voters

Laura has been a councillor in Newtown since 2019, and in 2023 stood in the May Local Elections as a Green Party representative for her ward, winning her seat again to stand as Dartford’s first Green Party councillor.

Full statement

Born and brought up in Dartford, Laura attended a local comprehensive, studied early years in further education and now works in a special educational needs (SEND) setting.

Laura first became involved in politics through community projects, and continues to be active in organising these. Through this, she noticed that the lack of equality and unequal distribution of wealth that she was seeing were linked to political choices. This has been a driving force for her.

Laura joined the Green Party in 2021, leaving the Labour Party as she felt that they were not offering strong enough policies on environmental and social issues.

Since then, Laura has worked hard for Dartford borough, including proposals for reduction of glyphosate chemicals used for weed management, supporting local housing needs, and fighting for the protection of green spaces including Swanscombe Peninsula; she was instrumental in setting up the successful grassroots campaign Save Swanscombe Peninsula. She recently founded the Dartford Care Backpacks initiative which collects donated essentials items to give out to homeless individuals in need.

Laura has also run a community safety group for several years, and is a strong voice for justice and peace. She has a Jewish heritage, and has been deeply troubled by the conflict, and the loss of Palestinian lives in Gaza, working with others to hold a vigil to bringing together people from all communities to reject hate, promote peace, and call for an immediate and lasting ceasefire.

Laura sees standing for the Green Party as the only way to create a fairer, greener, and more socially just society.

Laura is the Green Party’s candidate for Dartford at the next General Election.
