Statement to voters

Elaine is passionate about creating a cleaner, fairer and safer environment for residents.

Full statement

She has lived in the ward for ten years and is a committee member of the Hanover and Elm Grove Communities Forum, a body set up to address local issues. She works locally as a lecturer and copywriter, and is the parent of a 12-year-old.

Elaine's recent activity in the local community includes: · Working with community groups to remove graffiti and pick up rubbish. · Attending community group meetings to get to know the concerns of the people in our area. · Co-organising last year’s Hanover Advent calendar, an annual pre-Christmas event to get residents to decorate their windows street-by-street in the run up to Christmas. · Helping in a campaign in the ward to encourage the reduction of plastics use and to increase people’s awareness of what can and cannot be recycled locally.

She believes in a fairer and more sustainable society with clean air, high quality, affordable housing and decent wages, as well as excellent local services and social care. She sees bold action as necessary to halt climate change, and believes the council’s decision to make Brighton and Hove carbon neutral by 2030 - initiated by the Green Party – needs to be acted upon immediately.

She has pledged to work to end the use of toxic pesticides in our parks, playgrounds, pavements and other public spaces.
