Statement to voters
I’ve been chosen by the Brexit Party to stand as candidate for the Brighton Pavilion constituency. I’m not a professional politician. I’m an ordinary member of the public, a writer and journalist. I believe that the democratic will of the majority has been ignored by professional politicians. I want to restore common sense and trust to politics by representing the will of the majority.
I want to start by acting on the referendum result to leave the EU – not on the EU’s terms as in Boris’s agreement, but on terms that are favourable to the British people. That means leaving with a clean break and only then starting negotiations for a trade agreement.
Democracy in Britain has been compromised by the actions of an elite few who think they know what’s best for the rest of us and are acting in an unprincipled way. I want to remind this elite that they work for us, the people, and that sovereignty rests with us, not them.
