All elections have been postponed.
The government has passed legislation to postpone all elections until 6 May 2021.
Statement to voters
I’m standing for the Green Party in NW Durham at the forthcoming general election and encourage you to forget about Brexit and vote for what really matters to all of us – our environment, our happiness and our future health.
I was born in Bishop Auckland and now live in Stanhope. I’ve worked in many parts of the UK as well as abroad for 5 years running my own travel business. I’ve seen how other countries are combating climate change with green public transport, energy efficient buildings and ecological innovations, and seen how embarrassingly lacking the UK governments’ own efforts have been over several decades.
It is concerning when we see homes flooded, crops failing and biodiversity declining as a result of a changing climate. Catastrophic events are happening more regularly, and they get closer to home each time. In the UK one in six homes is now at risk of flooding, in fact you are more likely to get flooded than burgled!
Government responses to an environmental crisis is never good enough and affected families are left to seek support from friends and charities - imagine Christmas for those families affected by the floods in South Yorkshire. Severe flooding must not become an acceptable part of everyday life or an excuse for businesses to profit from climate chaos.
I am not a career politician. I have no campaign team and no funding from big business or unions. I am putting myself forward because I believe we must make considerable changes to the way we live within a very short timeframe and the Green Party is the only party to treat this issue seriously.
We don’t have a spare planet to move to, we must look after it for future generations. Brexit is simply a dangerous distraction compared to the climate catastrophe 11,000 scientists agree we are headed towards.
VOTE GREEN to respect and protect our environment, to create a fair society without homelessness and food banks and to invest in green technologies for our future.
