Statement to voters

I'm proud to be Labour's candidate for the new Buckingham and Bletchley constituency at the next general election.

Full statement

I grew up just over the border in Dunstable. My mum brought me up alone in a council flat, while she worked shifts in the Leighton Buzzard Morrisons.

Life wasn't always easy. Getting by on a low income, I watched my mum manage every paycheque to pay the rent and the bills, put food on the table, and give me as many opportunities as she could. Through her example, she passed on three simple values to me: hard work, aiming high, and never giving up.

Over the past year, I've seen first hand that those values are very much shared by local people, farmers, business owners, and civil society leaders across Buckingham, Bletchley, Tattenhoe, Winslow and the surrounding villages.

While people have hopes and aspirations for a better life for themselves, their families and their communities, they've told me they need a proactive MP who is on their side and can deliver change.

For over a decade, I've worked across the public, not-for-profit, and private sectors to shape economic policies that work for both ordinary working people and their families, and high-growth businesses in the industries of the future.

As your local MP, I'll use that experience to attract the investment, jobs and businesses which deliver higher incomes for local people, as well as fighting for the resources that gets the NHS back on its feet, ensures every child has the opportunity to thrive, and delivers clean energy.

We have a unique opportunity to reset the political conversation in our city, towns and villages. Please do get in touch. I'd love to hear your views about how we can build a better Buckingham and Bletchley together.
