Statement to voters

Ed is a Wycombe local! As a single father of two teenage boys, he knows what it’s like to worry about job prospects, the cost of living, energy bills and rising pollution.

Full statement

As a Councillor, he can be found in cafés, pubs, parks, libraries and community centres where he’ll listen to your concerns and act upon them. In Hazelmere, Wycombe he’s been at the heart of many local climate and nature-positive initiatives like bee preservation, solar panels and EV charging points, carbon reduction projects, recycling and youth engagement. He’s not just involved as a councillor but as a resident and parent. Ed is resolutely pro-climate, pro-business. He believes in disrupting current political and media conversations on industrial strategy and the climate opportunity. Unlike other parties that have no clear industrial plan or continuously backtrack on budget pledges, Ed’s stance has never wavered. The Climate Party believes that British leadership of what is effectively a new industrial revolution is essential to unleash British business and innovation and that will be achieved by through a net zero 2030 target. This is the only way for an economy the size of the UK to grab first mover advantage and demonstrate that Britain means business. The climate opportunity has vast upside for Britain industrially. A new, bold and positive transition and a very clear call for determined leadership of a Clean Industrial Revolution. It’s only by leading the decarbonisation rush and staying at the forefront of the climate opportunity that Britain will benefit economically. Let’s build clean technologies and infrastructures here in the UK rather than trailing miserably behind China and the United States. Let’s stop importing expensive energy when we can be energy sufficient here and pass on lower bills to all. Let’s channel investment, training and manufacturing back into Britain so we can become an exporter of our very own, home-grown climate industries. Britain has lost money month after month for 26 years exporting less than we import and running a damaging trade deficit. The only way to turn this around is for Britain to invest in our clean industries of tomorrow and create the new clean products all the World will need in its drive to reach net zero. In terms of climate opportunity, Buckinghamshire is currently one of the least ambitious councils in the UK which puts the future of all voters in Wycombe and our children at risk. There is no time left to delay – we need decisive, ambitious action! Ed will make sure Wycombe rapidly steps up its action on climate change, in a way that will bring jobs, innovation and new laws that will protect and preserve our exceptional Chiltern countryside and chalk streams.
