Statement to voters

I’ve lived in Wirral all my life.

    Full statement

My husband Mike and I raised our children here - a paediatric nurse and two fabulous sons - and we are proud grandparents too.

Caring is so important - whether that’s adult social care or looking after children. I was a foster carer for 30 years, often for children with complex needs, while also being a teaching assistant in a special school.

Adopting our two sons took me into endless meetings with professionals - their disabilities meant lots of time talking to consultants, speech and language therapists, occupational health and district nurses. This sent me on a path I wasn’t expecting.

Together with a friend we founded a charity to help other parents to navigate the caring process and be there to support them along the way, which we continue to do.

At the local carers network parents can contact us for help from a parent who has been where they are, and will support them.

I have been both a service provider and service user, so I see a lot of things from both sides.
