Statement to voters
I worked in Training and Instructional Design (including writing those e-learning packages that many people see as part of their work training).
Full statement
Work took me all over the UK and beyond (e.g. Switzerland, France, Finland and Italy), also years of the daily London commute as well as homeworking.
I have been employed, self-employed and ran my own limited company. I worked in business sectors as diverse as civil aviation, medical, government departments, military bases and the financial sector.
Ten years ago, when I was 51, the Coalition government and its austerity policy closed the project I was working on. It went on to greatly affect the education system (my wife was a primary school special needs teacher). I decided to do something about it.
I got involved in politics for the first time, by joining the Labour Party. I soon became very involved and stood in local elections. In 2014 I was elected Labour councillor in Aldershot and served for four years.
As a councillor, I campaigned on key local issues: local secondary school provision, late night anti-social behaviour, representing private and housing association tenants with substandard conditions and unfair extra charges. A huge challenge was property developers trying to build exclusively expensive housing that priced out local people.
In Cornwall, on top of these problems, we also have the effects of second homes, seasonal working and lower wages. The second homes have priced out the local Cornish residents and mean many places in winter become ghost towns. The rate of new housing versus the lack of infrastructure is another problem. Healthcare provision is stretched, especially with an aging population. Schools and A level provision is another issue. So, I decided that I want to step up again and fight for local people as their councillor.
I am delighted to have been selected as prospective Labour Candidate for the new Cornwall Division of Fowey, Tywardreth & Par. I can’t get out and about to meet you in person because of the lockdown restrictions. So, please take a moment to complete my survey, because I want to hear from you about the things that matter to you.

My pledges to you
It is more difficult than ever for young people to get onto the property ladder due to low wages and ever increasing house prices.
My Pledge
I will campaign to ensure that new local developments provide a greater proportion of genuinely affordable housing, and Cornwall Council expands its own provision of affordable houses to rent or buy
Our area has been hit hard by the Coronavirus pandemic. Small businesses in particular need all the support they can get to help regenerate our towns.
My Pledge
I will work tirelessly with businesses, Cornwall Council and others to assist in the regeneration of our towns
