Educated in Northampton, James left in 1987 and returned in 2010, having spent much of the intervening time working in the financial services industry in London and the home counties.

He became a self-employed certified financial adviser in 2012, and is a member of a number of local clubs and associations. An enthusiastic fan of Northamptonshire Cricket, he is also occasionally seen at Franklin's Gardens and Sixfields. As a local small businessman, James is known for his support of locally-owned and managed businesses, and is a familiar face to Northampton's independent traders. A carer himself, James is interested in how social care can be improved, and is also interested in housing, the environment and green transport."
