The Scottish Family Party is only about 3 years old and was started because of the way family and parents are being sidelined in the care and education of children.

On the Independence issue, we are neutral, with candidates and members who are for and against. Dorothy and I voted ‘Yes’ to Independence in the last referendum but we take the view that in this period of great uncertainty, now is not the time for a major constitutional restructuring and that a referendum vote should not take place in the next Parliament.

We prefer to concentrate on issues where Scotland has lost its way. Under the current administration Scotland has dropped to 35th in the World Educational rankings so we will argue in favour of exams, a greater focus on knowledge and understanding, improve discipline, and give parents the right to see what is being taught particularly in sex-education which currently contains content that most parents would consider to be grossly unacceptable.

We believe mums and dads are best placed and equipped to care for their children. State involvement should be reserved for the small minority of negligent parents and that the definition of child abuse should not be weakened (as is currently being considered) to include, for example, getting angry with your child.

We also believe that the police should not be used to enforce “Thought Control” by prosecuting people for what they say around the dinner table. Free speech in the public square, even if it is offensive to some, is necessary to preserve our democracy.
