Statement to voters
George Cowcher has been selected as the Liberal Democrat candidate for the Wellesbourne division at the County Council election in May.
Full statement
George is a
Wellesbourne resident and existing District Councillor. The Wellesbourne division
includes Wellesbourne and the villages of Bearley, Snitterfield, Hampton Lucy,
Charlecote, Moreton Morrell, Newbold Pacey, Ashorne and Walton.
George said, ‘It has been a privilege to serve as the District Councillor for Wellesbourne South for the last two years, alongside my colleague David Johnston, District Councillor for Wellesbourne East’.
George represented Wellesbourne on the County Council through very difficult times
between 1985 and 2005. He secured vital road improvements for the Division, including the Bowshot roundabout on the Fosseway, a new fire station and the County Council’s adoption of streetlights, taking financial pressure off the Parish and local tax payers.
As a past Governor of both Wellesbourne and Kineton schools he made the case for further investment in education. In his time as a County Councillor he ensured proposals to extract sand and gravel at Barford were rejected. He managed to maintain facilities such as the household waste station in Wellesbourne and County Council’s ownership of some homes for older people.
He is horrified to see the County Council putting forward the household waste site and
highway depot in Wellesbourne for housing in the South Warwickshire Local Plan. It
demonstrates complete indifference to the needs of local people and the desperate need for a NEW County Councillor who wants to protect our villages and get things done.
George used to ensure that proper road and pavement repairs were carried out regularly. Despite worn yellow markings many pavements have not been touched for many years.
If elected George will always put the interests of local residents first.
