Statement to voters

I have been a resident of Southend for most of my life: born in 1980, I grew up on the Kursaal Estate and currently live in Southchurch.

    Full statement

After getting a degree in Philosophy from the University of Kent at Canterbury I spent time travelling and enjoyed several years as an English teacher in Asia, but since my dad suffered a stroke I have been employed as his Carer. I have also worked for a number of years as a volunteer at local youth-clubs and on Youth Offending programmes, as well as helping with a group providing English lessons and other activities to Eastern European families; currently I volunteer at my local library. I have campaigned on a range of social and environmental issues: in 2013 I led a campaign against the sale of energy-drinks to minors, and as of early 2018 all the supermarkets have come around to my position. More recently I have been involved with "Plan B," a group which is currently engaged in litigation to ensure that the UK's climate change policies accord with our international commitments.

As a candidate in the 2016 local elections I condemned the transformation of Focus Youth Centre into a car-park, and called for an end to plans to devastate this town by sticking an out-of-town retail-complex at Fossetts Farm. In the 2017 General Election I similarly campaigned on local issues, particularly the proposed downgrading of Southend Hospital. Now, with my own Psychedelic Future Party, I am pointing out that opening and taxing cannabis-cafes is a proven way of providing much-needed revenue for the police...
