Statement to voters

I’m Amber China, one of your two Independent candidates for the ward of Terriers & Amersham Hill.

Full statement

I’ve lived in the ward most of my life. My roots run deep here — both my grandads lived in Downley. I’m local, I work locally, and I care deeply about the people and the place we all call home.

I work with young people with Special Educational Needs on a local rescue farm, combining mental health support with outdoor learning. I also volunteer with adults in addiction recovery and collaborate with local services and environmental groups. I’ve seen first-hand how vital mental health, social care, and community support are — and how often they’re missing.

Protecting and improving our local environment is something I care deeply about. Through my work outdoors with young people, I help build a connection to nature while supporting mental wellbeing. I walk the ward’s streets daily and see the impact of neglect — fly-tipping, overgrown spaces, and areas that have been allowed to fade. Our neighbourhood deserves better — clean, cared-for, and welcoming. That starts with councillors who take pride in the area and take action when things need fixing.

Too many people feel let down by their councillors — unheard and unsupported. I’ve experienced it too, and I hear it all the time. Whether you’re paying council tax, receiving services, or just reaching out — getting help shouldn’t be this hard.

Councillors are elected to speak for residents. Instead, many toe the party line or abstain from key votes if they clash with party values. That’s not representation — that’s loyalty to a party over people.

As an Independent, I’m free to work with anyone — and I’m genuinely eager to do so. Whether it’s residents, local organisations, or councillors from any political party, I’m ready to collaborate with anyone who shares a commitment to improving our community. No party lines, no political point-scoring — just honest, practical teamwork that puts people first.

I’m standing as an Independent candidate alongside Leigh Casey because we believe people come before party politics. We agree on a lot, we work well together, and we both want the same thing — real, honest representation for this community.

You get two votes. Use them on two people who’ll show up, speak up, and stand with you — not a party line.
