Statement to voters

I am standing for re-election as an Independent.

Full statement

I live in Thorpe Ward and have served on Southend City Council as an Independent for 22 years. I am staunchly and proudly independent. My politics are in the sensible centre ground. I am not interested in polarised, extreme or trendy politics. Over the the years I have worked with Conservative, Lib-Dem and Labour colleagues to deliver the best outcomes for Thorpe Ward. Thorpe Ward is a fantastic place and I think the best area in the city. This did not occur by accident, it is due to the hard work and dedication of Independent Councillors who have represented Thorpe Ward for 20 years. My son and I both own our own homes in Thorpe Ward, these are often our most valuable assetts. It is therefore logical that is my shared aspiration with residents to protect Thorpe Ward and all its great assetts. The most hotly contested issue is the Green Belt. The Independents will not agree to any overdevelopment, or any large development without the appropriate infrastructure incl Roads, Health, Schools, and Drainage. It is not possible for any party to gain an overall majority in this election. Once again the Independents will have the leverage and influence to get things done for Thorpe residents. Independent is the most powerful vote you can cast.
