Statement to voters

Hello all, Many of you will have seen my name on the Facebook pages, but you may not know that I have decided to bite the bullet and stand as an independent councillor for Reddish South in the upcoming local elections in May.

But why, you may ask?

I have lived in South Reddish for my entire life - my family have been here since the 60’s. I went to school here (and now my kids do too), I work here, I shop here, I go to the pub here and I get my curry here at the weekend. As someone who is so heavily invested in the area, I am really passionate about it - and like you, I want it to fulfil its potential.

There are a number of things that I want to focus on, as I have the same gripes as you as a local resident - fly tipping and litter, crime, anti-social behaviour, speeding cars, vandalism, pot holes and damaged play areas are just some of the problems I want to get the council to focus on fixing.

You will probably also know that I love Reddish Vale Country Park - we are unbelievably lucky to have that place on our doorsteps, and the last twelve months have proven that to all of us. I can promise you that I would never, ever vote for anything to be built on it - no matter what is suggested, it'll always be a firm NO from me. I will work hard to ensure that the council protects our wonderful park for future generations to enjoy.

Importantly, being an independent councillor means I would be free of any political agendas, and able to fully represent my fellow Reddish residents without any worries about 'toeing the party line'. I feel this is desperately needed locally, as other local councillors generally agree with whatever their party instructs them to - regardless of what South Reddish actually needs. I'll always fight hard for your interests.

However, being independent also means that I’m doing this completely by myself - I don't have a team of writers or a PR department to help me to promote my message, and I certainly haven’t got money to pay for glossy leaflets or posters! I can guarantee that given the chance, I’ll do my very best for the residents of South Reddish. For me, it’s about people - not politics.
