Martin is Caterham through and through.
Full statement
Growing up in Caterham, attending schools in Caterham, running businesses in Caterham all his life, Martin is well known in the business and local community of Caterham and serves as a District Councillor for Westway, Caterham-on-the-Hill. He is now standing as a candidate for the new East Surrey Council, Caterham-on-the-Hill Division.
Listening to residents’ concerns, Martin has worked to improve and implement better planning controls to help protect residential neighbourhoods for local residents. His depth of local knowledge is combined with a deep understanding of community values and how important it is to protect our area and our facilities. Martin recognises that when changes are made they must benefit the community and provide better outcomes for residents.
From his knowledge of planning and design, he understands why existing roads and neighbourhoods need protection against speculative overdevelopment and that any future development must to be well located, proportionate, deliver infrastructure benefit, and affordable housing relevant to the needs of local people to benefit the generation to come.
With Tandridge being the only Surrey Council retaining an asset stock of Council Homes, Martin is keen this model is taken forward and the provision extended to improve control, value and investment for the New East Surrey Council.
