Statement to voters

Dear Resident

Let me take this opportunity to introduce myself and a little bit about why I am so passionate about representing the interests of Highwoods on Colchester Borough Council.

Full statement

Having spent over a decade associated with both Hospitals that serve Highwoods ward it would be a privilege to represent you and champion the voice of our residents, businesses and community groups on the broader Borough Council issues affecting our area.

Highwoods is currently undergoing significant road infrastructure, educational and healthcare facility investment and it is vital that these developments are delivered for the maximum benefit of our community and residents whilst crucially engaging them as the primary users and guardians of their success.

With twenty three years experience as a clinician within the wider healthcare sector in North East Essex and specifically Colchester I have held management, clinical and voluntary positions with a number of local organisations including Oaks Hospital, Colchester General Hospital, St John Ambulance, East of England Ambulance Service, Open Road (SOS Bus), Healthwatch and the Essex & Herts Air Ambulance. As a consequence I am passionate in striving to improve and develop healthcare provision in Colchester and breakdown some of the health inequalities that affect our residents through collaborated working with patients, staff and management at ESNEFT, NEE CCG and the invaluable array of social care and not-for-profit providers we have here in Colchester.

In 2012 I established a not-for-profit healthcare organisation providing free or affordable event medical provision and first aid training to hundreds of public, community and sporting events and charitable organisations across the East of England region and wider UK. Growing year on year to become the largest not-for-profit ambulance provider in East Anglia. The most rewarding highlight for me has been in supporting, mentoring and training multiple local young people to fulfill their dreams of becoming registered Nurses, Paramedics and other Allied Healthcare Professionals. I continue this passion for education as a Clinical Lecturer for Anaesthetic, paramedical and nursing students at Anglia Ruskin University.

I am married to Angela, a Ministry of Defence public servant of 25 years from Colchester and with a 5 year old son, community safety, cleanliness and improving the assessability of public services, recreational facilities and educational access in North Colchester are also issues of pressing importance and very very close to my own heart.

I am determined to work hard for the community of Highwoods and I have been and will continue to be proactive (lobbying, litterpicking, grafetti removal, sign cleaning and painting), professional and engaging representative who delivers open, honest and fair representation for all, both within our local area and on wider Borough issues.

The core of my election promises to you:

  • Saving St Marks Community Centre from being axed by the Lib Dem/Lab controlling Council

  • Ensuring infrastructure such as highways and education meets the needs of the community of Highwoods with real foresight and anticipation of future demands.

  • Protect, maintain and champion recreational facilities and gree spaces for future generations whilst challenging those overbuild residential and commercial developments thrusted upon us by the Lib Dem/Labour controlling coalition, without residents consultation. Holding to account whether they are actually necessary, limit the costly waste of residents money by overspend/delays/poor oversight and limiting/rejecting those that irreversibly detrimental to our environment, infrastructure and wellbeing.

  • I will actively engage with Highwoods residents via regular advice surgeries and significant involvement with our various community groups and business leaders, ensuring your views are represented through appropriate channels

On Thursday December 8th 2022 please trust your vote to me to champion our great part of Colchester and put Highwoods centre row on all Borough wide issues.

Kind regards

David
