Statement to voters

As a working person with my own business in the village I grew up in just outside Tavistock and a proud Labour councillor in West Devon, I believe in security for jobs, health, pensioners, the environment, and our country.

Full statement

I’m running for parliament because I’ve seen how London isn’t delivering for us locally, and I want to change that. I’ve done it at a ward level, now I am committed to listening, working, and delivering for our constituency on what matters to you. From taking action on potholes to holding South West Water accountable for polluting our rivers and seas.

We’re a long way from London and I want to be your local seven-day-a-week MP in government. As your MP I will:

1. Keep It Green Get the water bosses to clean up the sewage in our water, make them criminally liable, and ban their bonuses.

2. Get Us Connected HS2 money should be for spent on our railways, not our potholes. I will to stand up for us in parliament to get our towns railways reinstated and buses that are on time.

3. A Fair NHS for Us We have lost our local hospitals, dentists, and doctors, making us travel and pay more. Labour founded the NHS and as your Labour MP I will fight to get the NHS back on it’s feet in Torridge and Tavistock.

4. Homes not Ghost Towns Our towns, villages, and parishes are at risk of being deserted if we don’t build or utilise housing to meet local needs. I want everyone to have a home and I will do everything I can to bring secure and affordable housing to local people.

5. Roads not Holes It’s the 21st century yet we have roads from the 19th because of government cuts. I’ll be championing the fair share we need for our roads and working people. Devon has the largest county road network, now it’s time to get the funding to match.

6. Learning for Life Education and skills training shouldn't be a luxury, it’s a necessity. A tenth of the money has gone from Devon schools since 2010, I want to get that back for our children, teachers, businesses, and future.

7. Pounds in Your Pocket Every penny counts. I know this and you know this. I will work to get the deals we need for our businesses and farmers, to sell our great products across the world, so we can get the prosperity we need to have more money in our pockets.
