Full statement
Allan Petrie said, “It is a privilege to have been selected by Alba to contest this seat, before I accepted, I spoke to my membership and offered to resign as chairperson, but they refused to accept the resignation instead they are fully supporting my candidacy.” Mr Petrie continued, “I have a track record of getting things done, twice in 4 years I have led campaigns to overturn cuts to services and respite for children with exceptional complex medical needs, I have helped many carers get rehoused to houses more suitable for the person they care for as well as ensuring they have the support and equipment they need.” “Dundee city council has been cutting services to the bone over the last decade and we can no long just sit back and allow it to continue, too many elected members within this city seem to be representing their MSPs or party instead of the people they were elected to represent,” “Just after the last council election disabled citizens lost an extremely important advocacy service ASPIRE the council claim it was not a cut as it just finished due to natural wastage of staff, what that means is they just don’t reemploy workers after they leave so the project naturally disappears, well for those who no longer have that vital service it was a cut.” Mr Petrie concluded, “I was a Cllr for Pitkerro which is now contained within the East End ward, I successfully tackled the problems faced by the community then and I will do it again, I will be pushing forward with policies to ensure our children are not going hungry at school and our elderly are not going cold in their homes simply because they cannot afford to heat and eat.” “While other candidates have pushed the sex survey in school I will be pushing anti-poverty strategies and trying to rebuild what used to be a very strong Voluntary 3rd sector within our great city which has struggled for funding for far too long.”
