Statement to voters
Lloyd Melville currently serves as an SNP councillor for Monifieth and Sidlaw on Angus Council, having been elected in May 2022.
Full statement
Born in Perth, and raised near Duntrune, he was until recently a council tenant in Monifieth; giving him first hand insight into local housing challenges.
On the Council, Lloyd has served as Vice-Convener of the Family, Education and Justice Committee, and Vice-Convener of the Angus Licensing Board. He led the creation of Angus Council’s new housing committee, drawing on personal and casework experience to drive improvement for tenants. He has been a prominent advocate for residents affected by RAAC, working constructively across party lines to secure solutions.
His priorities as a councillor include securing more investment in local schools, improving housing standards, repairing roads and protecting essential services from budget cuts. Lloyd has also championed action on climate change, backing investment in local initiatives, and supported community-led projects across Angus.
Before entering elected office, Lloyd worked across a range of sectors including theatre, food service and retail, where he served as a Customer Services Manager with Tesco. He holds a degree in History and Politics from the University of Stirling, having benefited from the SNP Government’s policy of free university tuition.
After being elected to Angus Council, Lloyd joined Dave Doogan MP’s team, working in both the constituency and at Westminster, and now supports Graeme Dey MSP, leading on community outreach.
